Life Beneath the Surface: Exploring Freshwater Invertebrates
Overview
Step into the fascinating underwater world of ponds, streams, and rivers to uncover the tiny creatures that call them home. These small but mighty animals play a huge part in keeping our freshwater habitats healthy and thriving.
If you’re curious about the life teeming just below the surface, or want to learn how to spot and identify some of these amazing species, then this online workshop is for you.
Freshwater invertebrates — from water beetles and mayfly larvae to snails and caddisflies — help keep our waterways clean and provide food for fish, birds, and other wildlife. They’re also brilliant indicators of water quality, helping scientists and conservationists understand how healthy our rivers and ponds are.
Join Avery Hill, invertebrate enthusiast and Biodiversity Officer at the Heart of England Forest, to discover more about these incredible creatures. Avery will share what makes them so special, how to recognise some of the most common species, and why they’re such an important part of the ecosystem.
By the end of this friendly online session, you’ll have a new appreciation for the wildlife living in our waterways — and the knowledge to spot them next time you’re out exploring nature.
