Description

Inside Out Dorset presents:

Life Cycles and Landscapes – Step into the Unknown

You are invited to join us at a two day Seminar, presented by Inside Out Dorset, for Landscape and Heritage Guardians, Artists and Arts Organisations exploring working together to create Outdoor Arts. Based on the Life Cycles & Landscapes project and taking place at Shire Hall and Maiden Castle in Dorchester, this seminar will be a mix of art and conversation, debate and advocacy, learning and sharing, connections, inspiration and ideas on what to do next.

‘We experience landscape. It triggers emotion. The arts are important mechanisms for helping this happen. The creative exploration of place, through celebration, installation, performance, music, painting, poetry and dance opens up the experience of landscape beyond the world of science and policy and helps us better understand our place in the world. With better understanding comes better stewardship; the basis of a more sustainable future. To describe landscape to others without invoking an experience is to fundamentally ignore our relationship with place, and miss what it is to be human.’ Howard Davies (NA AONB) and Tom Munro (Dorset AONB)

Venue: Shire Hall, Dorchester and Maiden Castle (Sheduled Monument), Dorchester, UK

The full detailed programme will be shared a month before the seminar, but here’s an overview of what you can expect:

Friday 21st September 2018. 11am – 5pm - Life Cycles and Landscapes – What we did, why we did it, what worked, what are the challenges in cross sector working and how do we overcome them?

Saturday 22nd September 2018. 11am – 10.30pm - Why do it? What is the impact? Who is doing what and what to do next?

Speakers and sessions will include:

And Now:, Activate, National Association for AONBs, Dorset AONB, South Dorset Ridgeway Partnership, Norfolk Coast Partnership, Wye Valley AONB, Bill Gee, HLF, ACE, Oerol Festival, artists Collectif Walden and Waterlanders (Netherlands) and artists from Sura Medura (International Residency Centre, Sri Lanka).

This is the final resolution event of Life Cycles and Landscapes, a three year multi partnered project with And Now: and led by Activate Performing Arts and the National Association for Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, based on the ancient routeway of the Icknield Way.

Attendance at the conference is FREE and includes lunches, evening meals, refreshments and coach trips to see Wayfaring.

Places are limited, pre booking is essential.

Delegates will be provided with evening meals on Friday and Saturday; you will be contacted shortly after booking your ticket, in order to select your meal choices from the supplied options and communicate any dietary requirements.

Why not join us in Dorset on the evening of Thursday 20th September to see ‘Furious Folly’ by Mark Anderson in Weymouth? We can arrange free ticket to seminar attendees.
