About this event

Arts • Fine Art

Visit this bright, colourful science art exhibition, meet the artist and get hands on with a facilitated drop-in art workshop inspired by the exhibition.

Janice Aitken is a leader in the field of art and public engagement. She has worked in collaboration with scientists for over 20 years on a wide range of projects from illustrations for major scientific papers and journals to exhibitions of digital works and an animated video learning tool based on the eukaryotic cell.

For this exhibition she has created a body of work inspired by biological forms that also incorporates elements of synaesthesia, psychedelia with a little bit of science fiction thrown in. Also featured is a group of works created in collaboration with Dr Mattie Christine Pawlowic whose lab researches potential treatments and prevention of cryptosporidium infection.

As well as enjoying the artworks, you can have a go yourself to create your own artwork inspired by the exhibition and the research that takes place in the School of Life Sciences. It is a drop-in workshop, so come along at any time.

All children must be accompanied by an adult.

This event is part of Open Doors Day and Explorathon.

Finding LifeSpace

The Gallery entrance is located on Old Hawkhill, between the University of Dundee's Sports and Active Health (formerly ISE) building and Miller's Wynd. If you use What3Words, the location is https://w3w.co/collision.leaned.amending.

If you wish to park on campus, you must pay using either the RingGo app or your phone unless you have a local authority issued Blue Badge. Blue Badge holders may park for free, without a permit, in designated accessible parking bays only. There is also generally free on-street parking within a few moments walk of the gallery - please be respectful of our neighbours. If neither of these is practical, please come into the gallery and our team will do our best to help you.

The gallery itself is on level access, and there are bathrooms directly off the main space. As the space is in a real research complex, our team will be on-hand to let you in. If no one is there please give the door a gentle knock and we'll be right over.
