Life-threatening causes of ptosis you can't miss: an interactive case-based session
CPD reference: C-113479
This CPD session will use realistic clinical cases to illustrate the challenges of distinguishing between routine ptosis and life-threatening conditions that demand immediate action. We will reflect on how critical red flags can be missed during routine assessments, the importance of systematic evaluation in all ptosis cases, and how management approaches differ when emergent conditions are suspected. The discussion will focus on practical strategies for optometrists: recognising danger signs on history and examination, determining when urgent referral is essential, and understanding how surgical and medical interventions fit within the ptosis pathway.
This interactive lecture for GPs, Optometrists and Opticians will be led by Clinica London Consultant Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgeon Miss Lisa Jagan on Wednesday 9th October at 6.30pm at Clinica London, 140 Harley Street, W1G 7LB.
Key learning points of the meeting will be to:
- Standardise your approach to all ptosis cases
- Identify life-threatening cases of ptosis and understand the urgent management expected of you
- Practice differentiating true ptosis from pseudoptosis "mimickers"
- Review the ocular surface considerations for patients considering ptosis repair
- Reflect on how your colleagues approach similar cases of ptosis
