Event description

Description

The poet needs to get beyond ego in order to become the voice of more than autobiography.’ Seamus Heaney.

Life writing is defined as the recording of memory or experience, whether your own or someone else’s. Autobiography, biography, memoir, diaries, letters, testimonials, personal essays, blogs or emails. Through exercises and discussion we will look at the benefits of recording our own stories, but will also try to bridge the gap between the personal and the public. Taking into consideration confidentiality and ethical issues, but also the importance of internal distancing in relation to our creativity, and the process of creating something that is separate from its author. Whether you’re interested in recording experience to pass onto future generations, or if your ambition is to reach a wider audience with publishable work, this course will be useful to you. It’s emphasis will be on autobiography and memoir, over biography.

Perfect for anyone interested in writing creative nonfiction, or exploring real-life stories through fiction. Open to beginners and experienced writers. We will keep the group small, at maximum 12 people. Clapton Laundry is a luxurious, inspiriing East London venue, perfect for writing. A delicious vegetarian lunch is included in the price, as well as plenty of tea, coffee and snacks.
