About this event

Community • Heritage

Lifford has a fascinating history. Two canals meet there, and there are two local sites of national importance associated with these. Industry, past and present, ranges from metal production through rubber manufacture and car production to internationally important materials for pharmaceuticals, paint, toothpaste and a host of other products. In the 1980s and 1990s Lifford was also home to an ambitious leisure complex and motor car museum.

Please note that there is a steep bridge with protruding pavement bricks close to the start of the walk. There is reasonably level access from Lifford Lane to the far side of the bridge. Paths will be uneven and may be slippery. There are no toilets on the way. This tour is not wheelchair accessible.

The guided walk starts and ends at the car park of the Kings Norton recreation ground (also known as Kings Norton Playing Fields). This is on the left at the first pedestrian lights on Pershore Road South on the way up the hill from Melchett Road. Postcode B30 3EU. What3words = ///scenes.safely.ideas
