Sutton House Queered presents

Light After Dark

An exhibition celebrating the past, present, and future of Queer nightlife in London, whilst exploring the trends and topics that surround the club scene today.

Join us for the Private View on Wednesday 27th September from 7pm

Part of the National Trust Prejudice and Pride Season, Light After Dark celebrates the vibrant queer club scene in London as a modern utopia. A platform for creativity using the dance floor as its stage, the club has long been the centre of community for so many in this city.

As a key component in Sutton House’s Never Gonna Dance Again Autumn programme, Light After Dark will remember lost venues and the history of club culture in London, whilst also championing campaigns to save those currently under threat. Just as Sutton House itself was back in 1987 before the successful campaign to save the historic Tudor property.

Through photography, film, fashion, artworks, writing, and public debate, Light After Dark looks to explore not only the past ‘golden age’ of queer nightlife in London, but also the energy of the present scene. The exhibition will discuss sociological and political issues surrounding queer London, including gender and sexual identity, subculture, social acceptance, gentrification and what the future holds for us in the changing face of our capital city.

Join us this autumn and be part of the discussion.
