In the wake of the LED revolution, effective lighting controls have firmly taken their place as one of the best routes to energy saving that lighting systems can bring to a building, but sometimes less well known are the simultaneous benefits that they can bring to the comfort and wellbeing of occupants.

In this CPD accredited event we will look at how the new lighting controls requirements in the upcoming revision to Part L of the building regulations can be applied to support lower energy use while simultaneously unlocking the potential for improving the performance of the space and the people inside. We’ll then go on to discuss how to best maximise these benefits over the building’s life-cycle.

Neil’s bio:

Neil McLean is the International Standards Leader for Lutron Electronics where he is responsible for supporting regulatory development relevant to lighting controls and automated shading systems. Neil graduated from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh in 1994 with an honours degree in Environmental Services Engineering and has since occupied a number of senior UK and international roles in the Lighting industry including with Philips Lighting, Sylvania and Recolight before moving to Lutron. Neil is an active contributor and chair at various groups in lighting and shades trade and professional associations including Lighting Europe, The Lighting Industry Association, The European Solar-Shading Organisation, The British Blind and Shutter Association and CIBSE.

Juan Ferrari’s bio:

Juan has worked in lighting from a young age, first in theatre and for the past 18 years in architectural lighting. He is passionate about lighting narrative and its effects on people, having perception at the forefront of his design.

He believes that design is about collaboration and takes responsibility for creating environments in which people feel valued and empowered, seek opinions, share ideas, and foster an open platform where people can express themselves to help them achieve their full potential.

In the past, he was instrumental in helping Hoare Lea develop their Lighting Design specialism offer for sectors such as Transport, Healthcare, Retail and Hospitality. He is now focused in leading the team into the Media and Creative Arts sector, as well as Experience Design.

He studied lighting design at RCSSD and he is a Member SLL and CIBSE. He enjoys talking about lighting and he actively participates as speaker for industry events nationally and internationally and has been invited to talk and lecture by prestigious institutions such as PLDC, ILP, RADA and IED.
