Event description

Description

Join me for a photography workshop, where you'll learn how to take landscape photographs in the dark, at one or more locations in Weardale. We'll meet in a central location (probably Stanhope), and the precise location(s) we work in will depend on where conditions are best that night.

The Moon will be up, which will provide a nice soft level of ambient light, but we'll also use a range of portable light sources, including powerful LED torches, light strips, and work lights to enhance features of the landscape.

The above photograph is an example of this technique. Most of the landscape was lit by the Moon, but we added to it by illuminating the trees in such a way that it fit in with the direction of the Moon, resulting in a naturalistic shot with a 'supernatural' feel to it.

This event is suitable for absolute beginners, but also for experienced photographers who have yet to take the step into manual mode. There'll be plenty of opportunities to practice, under expert supervision.

You'll need to provide your own camera, ideally a DSLR or CSC, although bridge cameras are also suitable. You'll also need a tripod and a torch. The only torch you need to bring is one for finding your way around safely. I'll provide the professional lighting gear. However, if you'd like advice on buying a torch, just message me.

Numbers are restricted to 10 photographers, so that you get plenty of individual support.

The workshop will go ahead with any number of participants, so the actual group size could be even smaller. That makes this event the perfect choice if you'd like more individual help than I'm able to provide in the larger group.

Please note that in order to keep prices down, bookings are non-refundable if you're unable to come (but it may possible to transfer it to someone else, upon request). In the event of adverse weather, the workshop will be postponed, and you will be offered suitable alternatives.

Joining instructions will be sent to everyone around two days before the event. This gives me time to take account of any special factors, such as weather for outdoor courses. Also, as you might appreciate, I don't want to make those details available to the general public.

Book early to secure your place.
