Lights, Camera, Tourism - bringing the small and big screen to East Devon

By East Devon Excellence

Overview

Learn about emerging opportunities within screen tourism and how businesses can benefit from Devon's growing profile as a film destination.

Join us on Tuesday 2 December at Scott Cinemas in Sidmouth for 'Lights, Camera, Tourism', where we'll explore how East Devon can capitalise on the growing opportunities within screen tourism and benefit from Devon's increasing appeal as a filming destination.

Screen tourism represents an exciting and burgeoning revenue opportunity for local businesses. Recent productions like the film adaptation of 'The Salt Path' documenting the south west coast path, and the period drama 'Miss Austen', filmed right here in Sidmouth, demonstrate how on-screen exposure can generate substantial visitor interest and deliver lasting economic opportunities. This event will show you how to engage with the screen industry, whether by offering your venue as a filming location, providing services to production crews, or leveraging screen connections in your marketing.

Our expert speakers from Screen Devon will share practical insights into how the industry works and how you can get involved:

Claire Horrocks | General Manager, Screen Devon
With nearly 20 years in the creative industries, Claire specialises in film exhibition and has curated Exeter's independent cinema, Studio 74. As General Manager of Screen Devon, Claire works to attract film and TV productions to the region and will explain how the organisation facilitates filming and pitches Devon as a prime location. She'll also share details about Screen Devon's location directory and how businesses can register their venues for consideration by production companies.

Sharon Ryan | Film Officer, Screen Devon
Sharon brings extensive television production experience, having worked her way from Researcher to Series Producer across BBC, ITV, Channel 4, and Channel 5. With firsthand knowledge of setting up film shoots and understanding crew needs, Sharon will provide practical insights into what production companies look for in locations and how businesses can prepare to work with the screen industry.

Event logistics and additional information

Accessibility

This cinema is spread over two levels. Access to the stalls is via two entrances at either edge of the auditorium, each with double doors - one entrance is flat, and therefore suitable for wheelchairs, while the other is accessed via 6 steps.

Once in the auditorium, it is split into two main seating sections - front and rear, and each of those sections are separated by three aisles. Fire exits are at the front of the stalls adjacent to the screen.

Access to the circle foyer is via a single staircase of approximately 30 steps, and there is no wheelchair access to this level.

Once in the top foyer, two sets of double doors lead to the circle.

Within the circle, seating is arranged in four blocks separated by three aisles. Circle seating is ‘stepped’ and there are two steps down to each row.

There are no fire exits from the circle.

For an in-depth description of the facilities at Sidmouth, check Scott Cinema’s webpages, and you can also see an overview of the group’s accessibility policy.
