About this event
This 3-day course will equip those new to the film and TV industry with essential tools, tips and tricks for finding and keeping work in the film & TV industry.
No pre-requisite required, just some curiosity and a desire to work in film and TV.
In a group of 20 we will walk through the essentials to refresh or start your career.
Day 1 & Day 2 will be at Prospect HQ, Victoria, London SW1P 1JP
Day 3 will be online, via zoom
Times: 9.30 am (Day 1 & Day 2) 10.00 am (Day 3) and finishing no later than 4.40.
Outline schedule:
Day 1: 9.30 am. Welcome & Introductions. Matt Gallagher, industry expert and trainer from TheCallSheet.co.uk will take you through an introductory look at the industry followed by a CVs and Cover letter surgery to get the most out of job finding. The afternoon session will be devoted to ensuring your health and safety. The “Starting Safely” course is designed for people employed or freelance, working in film, TV, theatre and live events. It is an introduction to safety in the workplace, promoting a safety culture based on personal responsibility for safety. This means that it encourages students to be pro-active in their own safety and the safety of others. The course is delivered in person by the Union’s H&S trainer, Martin Roberts.
Day 2 : 9.30 am. Location Manager, Amie Tridgell, will guide you through the essentials of working on set, who you’ll meet what all the jargon means, how to use a radio and how to behave, including a practical element.
Day 3 : 9.30 am starts with freelance trainer, Alison Surtees, providing participants with MHWB essentials. The online course is designed to give you some useful tools and techniques to managing your stress, recognising your triggers and finding healthy practices to feel well. The interview skills and techniques session will be led by Jade Gordon, Bectu’s Vocational Trainer, and will be followed by PayPlan who offer advice and tools on how to keep your finances under control and an overview of this service. The final session offers students an opportunity to chat with guest speakers who are in the industry.
Cancellation Policy: We appreciate that when circumstances change you may no longer be able to attend a training course on the date you have booked and paid for.
Whilst we will always try our best to accommodate any alterations to your plans, Bectu has a standard cancellation policy which is as follows:
If you notify us (phone/email) at least 7 full days before the scheduled course date you will not be charged and will be refunded any course fees you have paid.
For any cancellation you make that is less than 7 full days before the course date, you will be charged 50% of the total course fee with 50% refunded. This is unless you can demonstrate to us extenuating circumstances or you can select an alternative course date within a six month period from the date of the cancellation notification.
If you do not attend the course and/or fail to notify us in advance you will be charged the full course fee.
We are unable to reimburse any non-transferable travel or accommodation expenses that may arise from a course being re-scheduled or cancelled.
Bectu reserves the right to cancel courses without liability. However, where possible, delegates will be offered an alternative date or a full refund.
