Rebecca La Horrox – voice

Ana Bent-David – voice & electronics

The first of the Saturday evening sessions at Counterflows at CCA is an intriguing exploration of the dark and disturbing male dominated language of Hip Hop. Supported through the PRS for music Foundation’s Women Make Music scheme, artist/musician/composer Lina Lapelyte has brought together a powerful group of female artists all who bring their own distinct voice to the new piece.

Phill Niblock and Thomas Ankersmit

Thomas Ankersmit - computer, modular synthesizer and acoustic alto saxophone

Phill Niblock - Music and Images (from the Movement of People Working films)

Counterflows is pleased to present for the last session at the CCA Counterflows Saturday and as part of the celebrations of Phill Niblock at 80 this intriguing and exciting duo. Ankersmit will perform a short solo set which then will lead into the pair performing together and ending with Niblock’s own music and images filling the CCA auditorium with the intense aural experience and the visual bombardment of his studies of people at work. The set will contain older pieces and also completely new work. With a career spanning more than 40 years, Phill Niblock has not only proven himself as one of the most preeminent composers of the American musical avantgarde, but also an accomplished filmmaker and performer.

NOTE: Festival and day passes are also available that include this concert as part of the Counterflows festival.

Counterflows

Counterflows is a Glasgow-based festival dedicated to unusual and cutting-edge underground music. Whether born out of the likes of so-called DIY scenes, the internet or geographically remote communities, we believe that the underground belongs to a myriad of voices and is best engaged with when we come together, share ideas, break down borders, challenge hierarchies, push boundaries and quite simply have a lot of fun in the process.

With Counterflows 2017 we are tasked to take the festival to even higher degrees of aural intensity andpleasure. The continuing drive to challenge what Counterflows is and can do is paramount to our mission.  Ostensibly, Counterflows is a music festival, gathering artists from different disciplines to perform in and across Glasgow but over the last five years we have been busy building from this simple platform to create an open forum for ideas collaborating with many like-minded: artist, festivals,

organisations and communities.

The festival programme features a slew of international acts, as well as some of the best new music from the Scottish underground, with performances taking place across a carefully picked selection of spaces/venues in Glasgow. We are proud to host the festival in this city and hope the festival feels in some way an extension and celebration of the activity and community at the heart of it.
