Lincolnshire Yeomanry Talk
Event Information
About this event
The Lincolnshire Yeomanry was a volunteer cavalry unit of the British Army originally formed as Independent Troops in 1794 and saw action during the Second Boer War and First World War before being disbanded in 1920. The Headquarters and C Squadron was at the former Militia Barracks on Burton Road in Lincoln and now the Museum of Lincolnshire Life with other Squadrons based at Grantham, Louth and Grimsby. The illustrated talk will give a brief synopsis of the early days and concentrate on the Lincolnshire Yeomanry in Egypt, Palestine and Battle of Gaza during the First World War.
Find out more about the Lincolnshire Yeomanry in this face-to-face talk with Mike Credland of the Lincoln & North Lincs Western Front Association. Mike serves on the executive of the Lincoln & North Lincs branch of the Western Front Association and is Vice Chairman of Friends of the Lincoln Tank. He gives lectures to colleges, schools and numerous organisations and displays authentic WW1 and WW2 uniforms and artefacts from his private collection at events such as Heckington Show, Woodhall Spa Show, Museum of Lincolnshire Life and Cranwell Aviation Heritage Museum. Michael was author of The First World War Memorials of Lincolnshire published by the SLHA in 2014. He also designed memorials to the Lincolnshire Regiment at Sobraon Memorial Park in Lincoln, the 46th (North Midland) Division near Loos in France and Lincoln Tank Memorial on Tritton Road. In the Queen’s 2018 New Year Honours list he was awarded the British Empire Medal for services to First World War Heritage and Commemoration.
This talk will also be streamed digitally live and tickets are available to be purchased separately for this.
