Michael and Jenn are coming to Oxford to launch your lindy hop to the next level with an afternoon of classes that will focus on some of the fundamental building blocks of all lindy moves before tackling the big daddy of them all - the Swing Out itself! Leaders can expect to develop a greater awareness of how their own body movement affects their partner and how they can transfer momentum and direction to their partners effectively and consciously. Followers will hone their body-listening skills by understanding how their body mechanics affect their ability to translate information received from their leaders as well as learning how to bring their swishy swivels to life in a swing out!
CLASS 1 - ROCK-STEPS VS STEP-STEPS
We're going back to basics with this first hour to take a closer look at how leaders can ask specifically for a Rock-Step or Step-Step from the their follows and how followers can distinguish between the two from their leaders, before putting them into practice with a couple of moves that require a clear difference between the two.
CLASS 2 - SWING OUT FOUNDATIONS
The last hour will be dedicated to putting the final finishing touches on those newly refined Swing Outs including sumptuous swivels for follows and stretch/release concepts for the leaders!
ABOUT JENN & MICHAEL
Jenn and Michael have been teaching together for over four years and in that time have developed a dance philosophy that is strongly rooted in accessibility, energy and enthusiasm.
Both have achieved proficiency with a range of swing dance styles in a short period of time without childhood backgrounds in dance; thus embodying their belief that *anyone* can learn to dance at any point in their lives if they are interested and motivated to learn. This shared background is the springboard for their fun and engaging swing dance classes which focus on delivering in-class technique and material that is directly transferable into real-world social dance skills.
Jenn and Michael are both active members of the local and national swing dance community; as well as teaching for Reading University Swing Dance Society, they make up one half of the Reading Swing Jam Team, the OLH equivalent in Reading. Jenn also co-teaches weekly Solo Jazz and partnered Blues classes in Reading, leads the Reading Swing Exchange Team and DJs Swing and Blues at socials in Reading and beyond!
