Workshop Overview:

One of the biggest challenges facing line managers is addressing underperformance. It is often awkward to manage, with employees feeling ‘picked on’ or being asked to do the impossible. It can be compounded by difficulties such as the poor health of an employee, or temporary improvements in performance which soon disappear.

In this workshop, we will look at the ways to manage underperformance, thinking about the challenges that need to be navigated.

Learning Objectives:

We will address:

  • How to start a conversation with an employee who is underperforming.
  • When to start the process of issuing a disciplinary warning, and what to consider before moving up the levels of warnings.
  • Addressing underperformance when the employee has a health issue.
  • Navigating potential claims relating to stress, or bullying.
  • Setting appropriate targets and monitoring performance against them.
