Lines in the Ice: Exploring the Roof of the World.

The search for Arctic trade routes has captured the imagination of explorers since at least the 16th century. Sir James Clark Ross, Dr. John Rae and others have scouted routes, conducted experiments and encountered diverse peoples, while their work has had a profound impact on the Arctic and shaped the world around us.

Drawing from his book, Lines in the Ice, Dr. Philip Hatfield charts this history through manuscripts, maps, printed books and photographs.
