Description

2 WEEK EVENING COURSE

WEDNESDAYS 6th & 13th JUNE 2018

6:30 - 9:00pm

The reduction method of lino cutting uses a single piece of lino to produce a multi-coloured print. The lino is gradually cut away as each colour is printed and the image emerges. You will develop an edition of lino prints with 2-3 layers of colour. Your tutor will guide you step by step through the process and you will use oil based inks and our Albion press in the workshop.

The course fee includes a wooden handled lino cutting set and two pieces of A5 lino for you to continue at home.

What experience do I need?

This is a mixed ability course for beginners and those with more experience. Those who have an understanding of the lino cutting technique can use the course to develop their skills further to produce multi layer prints.
Lino printing lends itself to patterns as well as representational imagery so don’t be put off if you don’t feel confident with drawing.

What will I make?

You will make an edition of 10-20 A5 lino reduction prints on A4 paper using different coloured oil based inks.

Who is my tutor?

Kirstie Williams is a founding member of Leeds Print Workshop. She is a practising designer and printmaker creating both textile and paper based work.
She studied MA Textile Design at Chelsea College of Art in 2010 and completed a PGCE teaching qualification at the University of Huddersfield in 2014. Kirstie previously worked as an Associate Lecturer for Short Courses at Leeds College of Art, primarily teaching in adult education. She is passionate about bringing together a new creative community in Leeds through the running and development of Leeds Print Workshop.

Do I need to bring anything?

We will provide basic materials including two pieces of A5 soft cut lino, cartridge papers and a variety of colours of oil based inks. The workshop also sells a range of different printmaking papers if you wish to try something different. Prices range from £1 to £2.20 per sheet.

If you have some imagery to use as inspiration feel free to bring this along with you, or you can use the examples, books and magazines in the workshop to develop your ideas.

If I can't attend can I get a refund?

We will refund you in full if you cancel no less than 14 days before the start of the first session of the course, after which no refunds will be issued. Once booked, you cannot transfer to another course.

What if the course is cancelled?

We reserve the right to cancel the course for any reason (for example, insufficient bookings). We will endeavour to give at least 7 days notice if the course is cancelled and in the event of cancellation we will, of course, issue you a full refund.

Accessibility

Our aim is to bring printmaking to as many people as possible but, due to the nature of the building, Leeds Print Workshop is not wheelchair accessible. There is a step up into the building and four steps down to the toilets, and no accessible toilet facilities. Should you have any questions, or wish to discuss accessibility before booking, please don't hesitate to email us at hello@leedsprintworkshop.org

Please note: we regret that, for safety reasons, only those over the age of 16 will be permitted to undertake the course.
