About Jess Van Baalen

"I am an artist and printmaker, with a passion for exploring nature, folklore, and storytelling through my work. After graduating from Brighton University in 2022 with a degree in Illustration, I’ve focused on creating art that combines my love of the natural world with the timeless appeal of narrative and myth. I work with a variety of mediums but am particularly drawn to printmaking, especially lino printing. I love the tactile, hands-on process of carving and printing, which allows me to create bold, textured pieces that feel rooted in tradition. My work often revolves around themes of connection—whether to the landscape, the myths and legends that shape our culture, or the quiet magic found in everyday moments. Connection to nature is at the heart of everything I create. My work is a way of honouring the beauty, mystery, and resilience of nature while inviting others to see it through my eyes. I find great joy in exploring the small, often overlooked details of the landscape and weaving them into visual narratives that reflect our shared relationship with the earth."
