Description

Who?

The CLEAR Project, in conjunction with the Public Health Agency (PHA) invite community and voluntary groups to attend a workshop on ‘Building Resilience, Self-Care and Compassion in your organisation’.

What is it?

  • Professional quality of life is the quality one feels in relation to their work as a helper. Both the positive and negative aspects of doing your work influence your professional quality of life.

  • “The expectation that we can be immersed in suffering and loss daily and not be touched by it is as unrealistic as expecting to be able to walk through the water without getting wet.” Remen

  • Understanding the positive and negative aspects of helping those who experience trauma and suffering can improve your ability to help them and your ability to keep your own balance.

Aim?

This 3-hour workshop aims to:

1. Define compassion fatigue v’s compassion satisfaction

2. Describe the importance of practicing self-care

3. Identify ways in which you can practice self-care

4. Introduce strategies to build resilience and compassion personally and within your organisation

Facilitated by Marie Dunne and Judy Mills (Resilio)

Why?

  • The PHA quality standards for services promoting mental and emotional wellbeing and suicide prevention, under employment and volunteering structures, outline that clear support and supervision arrangements are in place. What this might mean in practice is the organisational ethos of promoting mental health and wellbeing of staff and volunteers.

  • The standards also promote self-care which is about individuals taking responsibility for their own physical as well as mental and emotional wellbeing, and involves individuals being mindful of their own health, self and happiness.

Note: The PHA quality standards for services promoting mental and emotional wellbeing and suicide prevention can be downloaded from http://bit.ly/MHstandards

In the afternoon following the workshops, there is an opportunity for a one-to-one session on the standards. This session will help you to reflect on how your organisation has completed the standards worksheets and the evidence provided.

Booking is essential for the one-to-one sessions. To find out more details visit our website www.dhcni.com/standards.
