Event description

Description

QMUL is delighted to offer an intensive one-day Writing Development Retreat as part of the programme of LISS-DTP training activities. The course is open to all PhD students affiliated to the Health, Wellbeing and Social Inclusion Strategic Area of the LISS DTP (Theme 1; Pathways 1-3) and is free to attend.

The retreat has four broad aims:

• to give participants a chance to make progress on their own research writing
• to offer strategies to help with obstacles around this writing
• to discuss approaches to - and opportunities for - supporting colleagues through facilitating writing retreats and writing groups
• to strengthen links between PhD students across Theme 1 and foster a culture of ongoing peer-support in your writing

Participants will leave the retreat with a range of practical strategies to try in their own writing, as well as knowledge of how to set up and run retreats and writing groups.

The day will be structured and facilitated and will include blocks of writing time, brief discussions and a final workshop on how to set up and run retreats.
A light lunch and refreshments will be provided.

To benefit most from this course you will need to do some advance preparation for your writing as you will have little access to literature on the day. Most importantly you need to come with a willingness to write.

We hope that this retreat will give you the enthusiasm and confidence to keep your peer-supported writing practices going throughout your PhD studies and beyond, and help you build a cohort of PhD students working on related topics.

There are only 15 places on this retreat and they will be allocated on a first come-first served basis, so please book your place NOW!

The closing date is 10th March 2018. If you have any questions about this retreat, please contact Kelly Peake: Email: k.peake@qmul.ac.uk; Tel: 020 7882 8242 or Deborah Swinglehurst: d.swinglehurst@qmul.ac.uk.
