"Quality of listening."
That's what this evening is all about. Come along if you would like to demonstrate the refined quality of your listening, and help draw our attention to it.
how's it work?
You know how nervous people get on stage? We'd like to invite the quieter amoungst us to share their thoughts. There's a lot of sensitivity, insight, observations, which is lost to the world because all we hear are those who are loud, brash, extroverted -- our media, our business, our entertainment is full of them. So, to that end, if you do take up the challenge, you will not find a microphone pointed at you like a gun aimed at your moth, but a welcoming, soft ear in which to pour soothing thoughts.
it might be new, but what's it like?
It is not performance. It is improves. It is like "The Moth", but you don't have to come up with a life's story. It's like an informal TED-talk or a pechukechu, but more about awareness, insight, wisdom than about knowledge or intellect. To be honest, the closest it is to is jaxing -- listen to some tracks here.
where'd the idea come from?
David was listening to Sofia talk about her recent experiences and it occurred to him that it was valuable. Not just the experience, the ideas, but the simple, improvised way she talked. How many people have deep engagement with their friends and families, but when it comes to the bustle of life and work, it seems to get lost? Can deep listening suffer a social environment? Come to Listen Up! to find out, or indeed, make it a reality.
what's this "be exceptional" ticket business?
Buy a ticket to show commitment. I am not sure what it actually buys you... I am sure someone on the night will come up with a neat idea.
