Engaging with Extant Thought:
Listening, Affirming, Critiquing, Enriching (LACE)
Who is this workshop for?
All those interested in developing a Christian mind and imagination, within and for the benefit of our academic disciplines.
The workshop will be based around Andrew Basden’s LACE model which is a sequel to the highly appreciated “Shaping Our Disciplines For Christ” workshops held in recent years.
Attendance at the previous workshop is not a pre-requisite – but if you have been to one you will appreciate how stimulating and supportive these workshops are.
Who should come?
The day is designed for a wide range of participants (not just those who came last year). Post-graduates and those starting their career are particularly welcome as well seasoned academics. We all have our own questions and contributions to make on relating the gospel to our disciplines.
Come to listen, to share, to engage and keep our faith relevant in a dynamic environment.
What will happen?
In the first session Prof Andrew Basden will develop the ideas contained within his paper “Shaping Our Disciplines” followed by brief discussion
Morning Workshop Session: We will divide into discipline related breakout groups to consider how we can encourage and develop the Christian mind in 21st century university life in our discipline area.
Lunch: Drinks provided - please bring your own sandwiches
Afternoon Workshop Session: We will divide into cross-discipline breakout groups to consider, learn, critique and sharpen our ideas utilising a range of diverse perspectives.
Final Afternoon Session: We will come together to consider how we can take the insights and ideas forward.
We aim to help participants return
• better equipped to integrate their faith and daily work;
• encouraged to glorify Christ on the campus;
