Listening Through Lino | Mindful Printmaking Workshop
Overview
In this session, we will be exploring linocutting as a means recording our inner listening. What does it mean to pay attention to inner listening? How might expressing that listening through alternative forms of recording those inner sounds help us understand and acknowledge this form of listening better? What does it mean to hear and record sounds in non-audio based mediums?
What to expect:
Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the session (12.50pm) to settle, get comfortable. You're very welcome to come earlier and explore the rest of the exhibition (highly recommend you do! Lots of amazing work to experience).
We'll start with friendly introductions and brief overview, and a short listening exercise, before moving on to designing, linocutting and printing throughout the session.
Please don't worry if you're completely new to linocutting. We'll thoroughly go over how to hold tools correctly, and basic cutting techniques so everyone feels confident- you do NOT have to have any art skills or background to be part of this workshop.
The nature of this workshop:
Please note, this is not an art therapy or mental health workshop.
It's not about asking anybody to come and be emotionally vulnerable. It's about thinking about the way we internalise sounds at a safe, first step, surface level. Inner listening could be anything from hearing a song extract on loop in your head, acknowledging you're hearing a dog in the park and now thinking about dogs, it could be a sensory feeling, a smell that's got you having an inner dialogue, it could be a shopping list for later.
The approach is aimed to be fun and light-hearted at starting to thinking about slowing down and recognising the inner- audible sounds taking up our headspace and releasing them.
Access needs:
This workshop is aimed to be accessible to however you listen, it's really about how we internally sound, think/ respond. Please don't feel excluded if you experience acoustic listening differently. If you have any concerns or access needs, please let us know prior to the event and we'll do our best to accomodate.
Exhibition info:
