Literacy and Numeracy for the Young P1/Reception Class
Event Information
About this Event
These are a range of fun music-based activities anyone can lead with their class, and it helps young P1/Reception children who are less confident develop a fun relationship with the sounds of language, letters and symbols, and working with instruments and the interactive whiteboard- in preparation for undertaking ABC Music's Literacy Through Music course.
This course provides an introduction to the preparatory Literacy and Numeracy Resources available for young P1 classes, who need further development of phonological awareness (awareness that language is made up of separate sounds) and their basic relationship with symbols.
In some classes it is necessary to develop these skills before children can start dealing with material in the main Literacy Through Music resources that goes on to develop phonemic awareness (awareness of sounds and symbols of each phoneme) and grapheme-phoneme correspondence (the relationship between the sound of each phoneme and the letter or letters that represent it).
