Literacy & EAL at TAG: Language as the Gateway to Learning
At Trinity Academy Grammar, over half of our students have English as an additional language, and nearly half begin their journey below national expectations in reading. Our mission is clear: ensure every student can access the curriculum—quickly, confidently, and successfully.
This event offers a deep dive into our bespoke, research-informed approach to literacy and EAL, which has seen the percentage of students reading at or above national expectations rise from 20% to 58% in just 3.5 years.
What You’ll Explore:
- Whole-School Reading Strategy: See how a structured, accessible reading programme is transforming outcomes across the curriculum.
- EAL Provision by Proficiency Band: Learn how we tailor support for students from Band A (new to English) through to Band D (competent), with targeted interventions in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
- Inclusive Literacy Development: Discover how our approach supports not just EAL learners, but also those with SEND and PP needs—ensuring no student is left behind.
This visit is ideal for literacy leads, EAL coordinators, SENDCos, and senior leaders looking to embed inclusive, high-impact language strategies in their own settings.
