Literary Lions - Charlotte Bronte and Gawthorpe Hall (Padiham)
Thu, 20 Oct 2016, 12:00 – Fri, 21 Oct 2016, 17:00 BST
at Gawthorpe Hall until 6th November
The 'Literary Lions' exhibition explores Charlotte Bronte's visits to Gawthorpe, her friendship with James and Janet Kay-Shuttleworth who lived in the Hall in the 1850s and how she came to meet Elizabeth Gaskell through the Kay-Shuttleworths. Objects on display will include one of Charlotte's original letters written to Janet Kay-Shuttleworth after her first visit, original items of Charlotte's on loan from the Bronte Parsonage Museum, as well as costume items of the period from Gawthorpe Textiles Collection. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about this famous writer's visits across the border into Lancashire.
Please note the Hall is closed Mondays and Tuesdays, but open 29th August Bank Holiday Monday.
