Literary Treasures of LMH (with guest speaker Simon Armitage)
Thu 27 April 2017, 17:30 – 18:30 BST
Lady Margaret Hall is home to a wealth of literary treasures, and this term the college presents a selection of them ranging from Samuel Johnson's Dictionary to signed editions of Stevie Smith and Robert Graves. There are rare and early editions of Tennyson, including a letter from the poet, and of Hardy, Yeats and T. S. Eliot. Guests can also learn more about two literary LMH alumni, the playwright Caryl Churchill and the historian and critic Antonia Fraser.
Join us for a drink in the beautiful Old Library room, where Simon Armitage (Oxford Professor of Poetry), Noreen Masud (Stevie Smith scholar) and Tom Cook (exhibition curator and poet) will present their short talks on the books and manuscripts featured. There will then be a chance to tour the main Library itself, where staff will be on hand to answer your questions and discuss the treasures.
The event is free and open to all members of the public and the University; tickets are allocated on a first come, first served basis.
