About this event

Science & Tech • Science

This talk will explore the phenomenon of thermal runaway in lithium-ion batteries, highlighting the associated risks and hazards as identified by Professor Paul Christianson and other leading researchers. It will examine the specific challenges these hazards pose to the marine industry and provide an overview of the current regulatory landscape—identifying both existing frameworks and critical gaps.

The session will also introduce the work of the Marine Electrical Safety Interest Group (MESIG), including it’s efforts to develop a draft international standard and guidance for safe marine installations involving lithium battery systems.
