Description

Children's Workshop led by Dolores Victoria Ruiz Garrido
AA Gallery, 36 Bedford Square

Children aged 7 to 11 are invited to take part in Little Architect, a workshop that will take them on a journey of discovery to observe, enjoy and understand the architecture of Bedford Square and the Architectural Association. The workshop will foster children’s creative thinking while improving their knowledge about the historic evolution of the square as well as particular events linked to the AA and its creative alumni. Children will be empowered and will be given an opportunity to express their own ideas about the future of Bedford Square and the AA building itself through drawings, writing and collaging.

Weather permitting, children will tour Bedford Square to pick up fun facts and point out details in the architecture and decoration before turning their attention to contemporary architecture and public space from different cities around the world that will ignite their imagination as they predict what London might look like in years to come.

Workshop Leader:
Dolores Victoria Ruiz Garrido (Lola) has been the author and director of Little Architect, the Architectural Association’s programme for UK primary schools, since 2013. Lola is CEO of Semisótano Arquitectos, an architectural office based in Andalusia, Spain and has over 14 years’ experience in designing private and public projects. She is also co-founder of MRRM architectural office in London, co-founder of the Spanish Contemporary Art Network (SCAN) and winner of more than 10 international awards. Her work involves communities in the design process, and places an emphasis on a responsible and sustainable approach to the environment. Little Architect aims to change the way in which architects communicate with society, especially in culturally deprived sectors, and to improve the understanding of contemporary architecture for the good of our future cities and the wider architectural profession.
