Overview

Find out how a phonics programme is helping Year 7 students who start secondary school without the decoding skills to read unfamiliar words

For the last 3 years, Little Wandle, one of the most widely used primary phonics programmes in England, has been piloting an assessment and intervention programme designed to identify and fill gaps in students' phonics knowledge.

This webinar will be of interest to any secondary teacher, teacher, teaching assistant, librarian or anyone involved in supporting students' transition to secondary school.

In the webinar you will find out:

  • What the pilot has learned about the profile of these students
  • Strategies to support older learners with phonics
  • How schools support struggling readers outside of the intervention

Before the webinar, please explore:

After the webinar, you'll receive the recording of the webinar; a list of suggested further reading; and a series of reflection questions/writing prompts to support you in linking the content of the webinar back in to your practice.
