This is a half-day course for people working with children and young people in West Sussex.

This course is being delivered through a partnership between Coastal West Sussex Mind, YMCA Downslink Group, West Sussex County Council, West Sussex CCGs, and Heath Education England.

Course Content

If The Hurt Could Talk What Would It Say? (Living with Self Harm)

- To raise awareness of self harm from a young person’s perspective, drawing from a collection of stories and poems.
- To explore some of the reasons why young people self harm and challenge the myths that surrounds them.
Identify what works for a young person who self harms, exploring strategies and ways forward in getting the right help.
- To develop helpful responses to a young persons disclosure and explore how hearing their stories impacts us and how we go about looking after ourselves

Getting to the Venue

The closest rail station is Littlehampton. The 700 bus stops nearby and it will be 5 mins walk from either Littlehampton rail station or Anchor Springs. There is no on-site car parking but a pay car park opposite the venue, at the back of the RNLI which will be £3.20 for up to four hours parking.

Timings & Breaks

The course runs from 9:30 – 12:30


Tea and coffee with also be provided during the mid-morning break time.

Registration fee

Your £10 registration fee for this course helps towards the additional venue and refreshment costs.


Please notify us ASAP if you are unable to attend the course. As this is a funded programme our aim is to ensure all available places are taken up. Early notification may mean we can offer this space to someone on our waiting list.

Welcome to Coastal West Sussex Mind

We are an independent local mental health charity working in West Sussex.

We aim to promote good mental health through the provision of high quality services and through campaigning to improve services, raise awareness and understanding.

Our services support young people, adults, older adults, carers and families affected by mental health problems. We offer help and advice to people around improving their physical and mental well-being, strengthening their self-esteem and confidence, building strong relationships with family, friends and communities, getting into education, training and work and achieving their personal and social goals.

We also work actively in local communities to raise awareness about mental health and tackle the stigma and discrimination.
