Event Details

Live Active Sport are delighted to announce that we'll be hosting a Coaching Conference!

Our Coaching Conference will be held in Kinross this year with a number of excellent presenters delivering workshops.

We look forward to welcoming international speaker and best-selling author, Professor Damian Hughes, as our Keynote Speaker for the event. Read more about Damian here: www.liquidthinker.com

The workshops that will be delivered at the event are:

  • Recovery Strategies - For improving performance and reducing injuries

Linda Linton, from Edinburgh University’s FASIC, will be imparting her knowledge of recovery strategies and providing us with an insight into how we can implement these within our sessions.

Recovery following exercise is often neglected, yet ensuring an athlete follows a regular recovery programme after training or competition has been shown to speed up their recovery from low grade muscle damage and return to full performance potential quicker.  This is particularly important not just during training weekends, competitions and tournaments, but on a regular basis when the athlete is constantly demanding more from their body. This session will explore the recent evidence-based literature and practical application for recovery strategies that are simple and easy for an athlete to adapt into their regular training programme.

  • Performance Analysis - Introducing technology into your sessions

Performance Analysis provides the athletes and coaches with objective information that helps them understand performance. Performance Analysis can help enhance the coaching process by providing statistical and video information. This objective data facilitates enhanced feedback between coaches and athletes.

Focus is utilised by coaches and educators in more than 80 countries around the world to enhance performance and maximise the potential of both teams and individuals. Focus Analysis founder Ian Donnelly will be joining us at the conference to discuss performance analysis and how it can complement your coaching sessions.

  • Physical Literacy - Develop confident and competent athletes

Gavin Beith from the Scottish FA will be demonstrating practical skills that can be adapted to your sessions to help enhance your athletes physical literacy.

Physical literacy is the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge, and understanding to value and take responsibility for engagement in physical activities for life. Physical activity is a lot more fun when we’re physically literate. If we want children to be active for life, ideally, they will need to develop physical literacy at a young age during the early stages of Long-Term Athlete Development.

  • Mental Health & Wellbeing- Supporting your athletes

Andy’s Man Club will be sharing life-changing stories to help raise awareness of Mental Health and remind everyone that #itsokaytotalk

The group leaders have had a busy few months where they have proudly been awarded by Scottish Athletics for their fantastic 0 to 10K group in HMP Perth and they’ve also safely returned from reaching the summit of Kilimanjaro!

The groups presentation will aim to help our coaches with supporting their athletes!

  • Conflict Management - Strategies for coaches

Education Through CashBack (ETC) is a national Scottish Sports Futures programme; developed in partnership with Youth Scotland, that aims to enhance sports coaches, youth workers and volunteers understanding of personal development through sport.

The workshop will give an overview of their Conflict Management module and will offer participants practical tools for dealing with conflict, aggression and challenging behaviour in a sports setting.

  • Strength & Conditioning - Understanding the benefits

St. Andrew's University Strength & Conditioning Coach, Claire Tracey, is presenting at our conference to discuss the importance of Strength & Conditioning.

Having completed her UKSCA Accreditation in 2013, Claire now makes sure she stays on top of the current research and training methods to enable a continued development in her coaching and practice. Throughout her professional career she has worked for several years as a Personal Trainer in the fitness industry and coached her own athletes including Great British National Fencing Athletes, Junior National Tennis players and many club level teams including Spartan’s Woman’s FC.

Claire will be focussing on the benefits of strength and conditioning for youth athletes, how to implement this and the considerations you have to make.
