About this event

Music • Classical

Sonia Allori, a deaf and disabled composer and performer, first started working with live captioning during the pandemic in 2020 as a way of continuing to work and connect online. Five years later, this has developed into something else entirely new, live descriptive captioning in music improvisation, where words and music marry into an exciting and inclusive creative process.

This webinar tells the story of how this all came into being in 2020 and follows its development to the present day. Sonia will be joined by performer/ composers Ali Robertson and Nichola Scrutton, two of her fellow improvising musicians from Sonic Bothy, with chat and live music demonstrating the process in action. Live descriptive captioning will be provided by Eluned Charnley, who may also have a few words to say on the subject!

This webinar is part of Sonia’s work as an awardee of the Chamber Music Scotland Classical EDI development fund in 2025.
