HBC Fest will be unlike any other conference you’ve attended - forget staring at endless PowerPoint slides and the fatigue that accompanies it. At HBCL we like to practice what we preach, so we’ve set up a festival-style event that fosters the right conditions for optimal learning, connection and relaxation. We believe the best memories are formed around a campfire, so why not join in the fun at Big Sky Hideaway in Lincolnshire.
What to expect?
The idea behind HBC Fest stemmed from the desire to create an event that really embodies the values of Human Behaviour Change for Life: being practical, fostering connection, providing support, embracing innovation and being ethical. We knew that a conference in the traditional sense wouldn't fit that bill and so the idea of holding a festival-style experience was planted.
Practical - "From principles to practice": The theme of HBC Fest is "From principles to practice" - but what do we mean by this? We truly are behaviour change science geeks but as much as we love delving into the theory and psychology of change, we know that ultimately we need to be able to apply these in real-life situations, from the office to the field. HBC Fest will give you the chance to learn from those who have done just that, as well as enabling you to practice using key tools and techniques in practical workshops.
Connection - speakers and guests from diverse sectors: At HBCL we believe that people and problems don’t exist in isolation, and that’s why the HBC Fest “line-up” is designed to celebrate the interconnectivity in everything we do. Our speakers and activity leaders will share the lessons they’ve learned from their work across diverse projects and sectors, and they will guide you in being able to apply these principles to your own work.
Support - growing together: HBC Fest will be a safe environment to explore ideas and learn new skills in both your professional and personal lives. Whether you work in small or large teams, or independently, championing each other and celebrating the amazing successes of others is so important to building confidence and keeping momentum in the work that we do.
Innovative - a break from the normal conference routine: In the work we do with our clients, we love to create innovative projects and activities that break the mould and we wanted to bring that ethos to HBC Fest. So, don't expect endless PowerPoint presentations but be prepared to take part in activities and workshops that will get those ideas sparking and relationships nurtured.
Ethical - high impact for us, low impact on the planet: We all know how wasteful events can be so it was really important to us that HBC Fest was as low impact on the environment as possible. All the food will be vegan (although cow's milk will be available for hot drinks) and we have worked closely with our catering suppliers and the venue to bring the most sustainable options for plates, cups, and cutlery. Please help us by following any guidelines on recycling etc. while on site.
The event will be hosted by the HBCL team, led by co-founders and Co-Directors Jo White and Suz Rogers, who will also be running sessions during the weekend. Suz and Jo are behaviour change geeks with an insatiable interest in this area and how it can benefit humans, animals and the planet. We warmly invite you to join us for this special event and are looking forward to getting to know you, learning with you and hearing about your experiences during the weekend.
All profits from HBC Fest will go towards the HBCL goal of adopting a piece of land that reconnects people with the planet, to help their well-being and the wellbeing of the planet. By attending this event you will help HBCL to take a step closer in protecting a piece of nature for the next generation.

Frequently asked questions
Small single tents are very reasonably priced and the price doesn't reflect the benefit of becoming a happy camper for years to come. We also have small number of tents to borrow and local freecycle groups and similar often have tents available. Don't feel like you need something high end!
HBC-Fest is the perfect place for a nervous camper as you'll be among friends, have lots of potential helpers, and be kept busy and well-fed so you'll hardly notice you're staying in a tent. HBC Fest is all about supporting one another and growing together.
If camping really isn't your thing, there are glamping options available at an additional cost to suit your needs. Get in touch with us at info@hbcforlife.org if you'd like to explore this.
Individual day tickets are also available. Watch out for the release of events on our social media and website to choose which day you'd like to attend!
