About this event
Pack your imagination and let us whisk you off to Paris for the evening.
The wonderful Oh la la! blend the heart of Parisian folk (musette), the timeless romance of French chanson (think Édith Piaf), and the toe-tapping energy of 1920s swing through to the smooth jazz of the 1950s. Add a dash of film noir and nouvelle vague movie themes, a few cheekily re-imagined French pop tunes from the 60s, plus original material from their upcoming album – and you have the perfect recipe for a night of charm, nostalgia and sheer joie de vivre.
At the centre of it all is the Parisian-born Fifi la Mer, whose warm, dusky voice and evocative accordion will transport you to that little café near the Eiffel Tower. Partnered by the brilliant Oliver Wilby on clarinet (and, when the mood changes, on sizzling saxophone), they take us from cobbled-street romance to the buzz of a Pigalle jazz club. With the cool guitar of Simon Picton and the deep groove of Julian Bury on double bass, this is Parisian jazz at its most stylish.
Oh la la! have played over 1,200 concerts in the last decade, from Ronnie Scott’s and the Brasserie Zédel (over 700 performances!) to the Royal Opera House, Wilton’s Music Hall, the National Theatre, St Martin-in-the-Fields, and even aboard the Orient Express and the Belle Vallée on the Seine. They’ve charmed audiences at festivals, theatres, cabaret clubs and beyond – and now it’s our turn to enjoy their magic.
