Event description

Description

In February 2016 the Lord mayor of Liverpool accepted the Report into the Economic Value of Beatles Tourism to Liverpool, prepared jointly by the University of Liverpool and John Moore’s University. At the press conference called to announce the report’s publication, the Mayor announced the immediate establishment of a ‘Beatles legacy Group’ to monitor the quality of the tourism experience. While these developments are to be welcomed, when the group had not been in existence for 46 years (by that date), they tend to beg the question why it has taken so long for the city of Liverpool to publicly embrace Beatles tourism? Dr. Michael L. Jones of the Institute of Popular Music at the University of Liverpool will suggest some answers to these questions.
