    FAQs

Why do I need to book a place to visit?

Booking you place to come and visit helps us to work out the number of people who will be visiting us; so we can make sure we maintain the appropriate level of social distancing to keep you and our colleagues safe while you’re in the Cathedral. We have designed a route for you to be able to see the Cathedral and are offering places for private prayer.

How long do I have in the Cathedral?

Slots will be every 30 minutes for a fixed number of people. We won't hurry you out. Please note on Saturdays and Sundays the last ticket entry is 2pm, you will need to have cleared the building by 2:45pm, unless you are staying for the service at 3pm.

    What happens if I don’t book a slot ?

If you don’t book a slot through Eventbrite, you may need to wait until we’ve made sure we’ve got the capacity for you to come in. This might mean queuing outside, so you’ll need to make sure you’ve got appropriate clothing with you.

Do I need to maintain social distancing while I’m in the Cathedral?

Yes, please make sure you keep physically apart from the staff, volunteers and other visitors (currently 2m).

How can I keep my hands clean?

We’ll provide hand sanitiser at the entrance and at key points. Please make sure you sanitise your hands on your way in.

Will Liverpool Cathedral colleagues be wearing personal protective equipment?

Yes, our staff and volunteers will be wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) to keep both you and themselves safe while you're visiting us.

What other measures have you put in place to keep me safe when I visit you for private prayer?

We have introduced an enhanced cleaning regime, paying special attention to surfaces which are touched regularly. We’re also monitoring the temperature of our staff, volunteers and people visiting us for private prayer.

How do I let you know if I need your help to get around the Lady Chapel?

Please use the Eventbrite booking form to let us know if you have mobility issues and need us to make alternative arrangements to make your visit as comfortable as possible.

    Can I light a candle?

You will be able to light a candle and will find candle pricket stands in key locations.

    Are there toilet facilities?

Yes, but to keep safe we are limiting the number of people who can go in. Please be prepared to queue.

Are there any people to help me while Liverpool Cathedral is open?

We’ve all been affected by the pandemic in some way. Maybe you’ve been feeling isolated or found it difficult not being with loved ones face-to-face. But for some of you; the impact has been stark, having to cope with the illness or loss of someone close to you. However you have been affected, we’ll try to have a member of the clergy on hand to help you during our opening hours. We will also have staff and volunteers on hand to help and answer questions.

Are there signs in place to help me get around?

Yes, there are signs to direct you around the Cathedral. During opening hours there’s staff and volunteers to help you navigate safely around the space.

Are the Welsford Restaurant or Mezzanine Café open for refreshments?

Instead of the Welsford and Mezzanine Cafe you can enjoy a Joe Black Coffee and a selection of delicious food in our pop-up cafe The Mezz in the Well. Enjoy fine food in a socially distanced space in the fine surroundings of the Well of our Cathedral.

    Is the Tower Experience open?

As the Tower Experience is classed as an indoor attraction we are not able to open this at the moment. We are working towards how we can maintain appropriate social distancing measures when we are allowed to reopen the Tower.

Why are you asking for donations?

Like many other organisations in the city and beyond, we face an uncertain future. We are experiencing a huge shortfall in our income Liverpool Cathedral has lost nearly all of its revenue over recent months.

We aren’t funded by the Government and the main way the national church supports us is through salaries for our clergy.

Your donations are especially needed and welcome to help keep entry to Liverpool Cathedral free to visitors. It will help preserve your heritage for generations to come.

How can I help support the Cathedral?

There are several ways you can help support Liverpool Cathedral. You can donate when you book. You can also donate on our portable contactless consoles. Thank you for your generosity.

Should I visit you if I feel unwell?

No, please stay at home and don’t visit If you are feeling unwell or are experiencing any symptoms of Covid-19.

This is a particularly difficult time for many in our city, our nation and the wider world and we want to continue to be a place of solace to everyone who visits us. We recognise that we've made changes to how we operate which may be inconvenient or uncomfortable. We hope you understand why we need to make them and look forward to when we can welcome you back to the bustling, vibrant place of Encounter you love.
