Monitoring the experiences of care home visiting during the pandemic in the Netherlands (and implications for the UK)
About this event
Join us for our July Forum event to hear from Dr Bram de Boer about his research into visiting in Dutch care homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, with implications on the UK care home sector.
Dr Bram de Boer is a researcher at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. Since the global COVID-19 outbreak in 2020, care homes across the world have taken restrictive measures to stem infection rates and safeguard their vulnerable older adult residents. In the Netherlands, during the first wave of COVID-19, these restrictive measures included a total ban for visitors to care homes. This total lockdown of care homes lasted two months, after which a national pilot was started to cautiously re-open care homes for visitors. In a selection of homes, one visitor per resident was allowed. The process of re-opening was monitored by researchers to gain insights into the experiences with the lockdown and being able to allow visitors again. In addition, at the moment we see that the vaccinations are presented as the key to getting our freedom back.
After the talk, we will have a 15-minute discussion with Dr de Boer where you can ask questions.
