Liverpool School of Art Bicentenary Event - Peter Davies Lecture
Overview
Peter Davies is a renowned artist and author on Modern art with a special expertise on Liverpool School of Art and its impact on Merseyside. Liverpool John Moores University is proud to announce a special lecture by Davies, which is one in a series of events to celebrate the bicentenary of Liverpool School of Art.
The lecture by Peter Davies- entitled ‘Liverpool School of Art and Modern Art on Merseyside’- will take place at 6.00 p.m. on 27th November at the LJMU Johnson Foundation Auditorium, John Lennon Building, Duckinfield Street, Liverpool L3 5RD. During this talk, Davies will share insights about the historic alumni of Liverpool School of Art and the relationship of the institution to the Merseyside region. All are welcome to this free event.
Peter Davies was born in Pontypool, Monmouthshire, and paints plein-air landscapes, especially of Cornwall and France, as well as undertaking printmaking. He studied Art History at the University of East Anglia, and life drawing under Joe McGill at Chelsea School of Art. He has written many books on modern British art, including the pioneering A Northern School (1989), Liverpool Seen (1992), St Ives Revisited (1994), After Trewyn: St Ives Sculptors since Hepworth, (2001), and Bratby (2002), amongst many other books and exhibition catalogues. As an artist, he participated in group shows, including ‘A Northern School’, Grundy Art Gallery, Blackpool, (1990), Domino Gallery, Liverpool, (1992) and Harlech Biennale, (1996). Some of the solo exhibitions during Davies’ career include Bridewell Studios, Liverpool, (1992) and Porthmeor Gallery, St Ives, (1994).
His artworks are held in the private collections of many individuals- including Dame Jilly Cooper, George Melly, and Denis Bowen.
