A course for practitioners who are keen to develop or refresh skills in having effective health and wellbeing conversations.

About this event

This 2 hour free and fully interactive online course is available to staff members of the Integrated Care System, not for profit charities and organisations in Dorset. This course will lead delegates to:

1. Identify and maximise opportunities for effective brief positive open, discovery conversations with family, friends, colleagues, clients and as part of the appraisal process.

2. Learn basic conversational tools to assist in supporting positive lifestyle change opportunities

3. Develop SMART(ER) goal-setting skills whilst being given a greater understanding of how the LiveWell Dorset provision may assist.

It will also introduce delegates to the stages of behaviour change and how an individual may move through them. Delegates will be offered the basic principles of Motivational Interviewing and the tools to assist in maximising positive lifestyle change conversations.

Delegates will have an opportunity to practice applying these principles and techniques.

Learning objectives:

• Awareness of the MECC initiative

• Build an awareness of the ‘Healthy Conversations’ and Motivational Interviewing philosophies

• Be aware of the healthy conversation skills and response styles

• Develop SMART(ER) goal-setting skills

• Recognise the Stages of Change and how we can support someone to move through them

• Identify tools and techniques that support the use of the MI principles and be able to apply these principles and techniques
