About this event
There Is Nothing More Precious Than Our Human Life. With it we have immense potential and freedom to accomplish anything we want: success, wealth, fame, family life, world travel. Our worldly ambitions can be almost limitless.
However, in spite of our every achievement, we are often left with a residual gnaw of dissatisfaction that surfaces in spite of our every material gain.
So what is missing? Is there more beyond material gain? What will bring me deep satisfaction? What will bring real meaning to my life—a meaning that is deep and reliable, that will transcend the everyday challenges of life?
This silent weekend retreat with senior Buddhist teacher James Baskerville will explore these profound questions. It will emphasise how training our mind is the key to awakening our ultimate potential.
By turning inwards, we can understand, develop and realise our inner potentials. We can awaken our boundless essential nature of peace, love, compassion and wisdom.
Through training our mind, we can discover a true purpose, navigate our pursuits with meaning, and benefit all others. We can truly seize the essence of every moment of this temporary life.
🌿 About the Retreat
Held in the peaceful and scenic surroundings of Wootton Hall, this retreat offers the ideal setting to unplug, reflect, and reconnect.
Silence helps us settle the mind, become more inwardly focused, and deepen our meditation experience. Free from external distractions, we can cultivate greater clarity, emotional balance, and a sense of spacious stillness that remains with us long after the retreat ends.
🧘♀️ What to Expect:
- Four guided meditation and teaching sessions with opportunities to ask questions
- Held in a supportive, fully silent environment to aid deep inner reflection (from registration on Saturday until lunchtime on Sunday)
- Delicious vegetarian lunches and snacks provided during the breaks
- Comfortable indoor space and time to enjoy the natural beauty of the grounds and surrounding countryside
- All levels welcome—from beginners to experienced meditators
Take this opportunity to unplug from noise and distraction, and give yourself the space to reflect on what truly matters. Step into silence and discover the peace and purpose that lie within.

Everyone Welcome!
Frequently asked questions
Everything will be provided for your day. However, if you have special dietary requirements, you may wish to bring your own supplies just in case. We meditate sitting in chairs, but you can bring a cushion to sit on the floor if you prefer. Bring layers to wrap up in case it is cold.
All our events are run by volunteers! So any help is very welcome; this may include serving refreshments and the meal, assisting with washing up in the kitchen, or helping to put away chairs at the end. But if you just want to talk to us, that's fine too.
This beautiful venue is up a long hill off the main road between Canterbury and Folkestone, so you are likely to need a car to get there. Please contact us if you would like to see if we can provide you with a shared car journey, but give us some few days notice to arrange if this is possible.
