About this event

Learn how cities can come together with their residents to create the streets of their dreams

Target audience: representatives of local authorities, mainly from Portugal, Greece and Croatia, and representatives of the civil society

At this workshop the 7 pilot cities from the EUKI-funded Living Streets project - Faro (PT), Obidos (PT), Torres Vedras (PT), Porec (HR), Krizevci (HR), Corinth (GR) and Elliniko-Argyroupoli (GR) - will share their experience with their Living Streets and you will also have the opportunity to start tracing the path to develop your own.

  • Learn from pilot cities how local authorities can encourage citizens to get involved in making lively and livable streets and how, together, they were able to rethink urban planning and mobility
  • Discover Faro's Living Street
  • Pave the way towards your own Living Street with the support of the pilot cities, other municipalities from Portugal, Greece and Croatia, as well as project partners (Energy Cities, OesteSustentável, Sustainable City and TerraHub)

---------------

Living Streets aims at supporting residents to transform their streets temporarily into the sustainable place they have always dreamed of. It is the result of a pilot initiated by the City of Ghent in 2012, when they asked a group of citizens, entrepreneurs and civil servants to imagine a sustainable future for their city. Their vision became part of their agenda for the future: a network of car-free zones built around central squares, with rapid transit bike lanes, public transit, and neighbours talking in the street. The group realised that only a vision by itself would not change the world. To make it really happen, they launched concrete experiments, the Living Streets and tried to make their dreams a reality.

Based on the experience gained by Ghent’s Living Streets and the lessons learnt from the EU funded project Living Streets, another round of Living Streets came to life in 7 cities from Croatia, Greece and Portugal.
