Event description

Description

Over 400 residential tower blocks were built in Birmingham in the 1970s. The most unpopular ones have long since been demolished, but many remain as a useful part of the city’s housing stock.

When there is a chronic shortage of housing can we afford to knock any more of them down?

Alan Clawley, Architectural writer, presents an illustrated history of the tower block and Tim Lewis, Conservation specialist & "STEAM" PhD Researcher at the Birmingham City University, will examine their significance and discuss their role in C21st housing provision.
