We are delighted to bring you an afternoon of beautiful and poignant poetry from two incredible Black Country Poets.

About this event

Join us for an afternoon of outstanding poetry from two leading poets from the Black Country. Award Winning Poet Liz Berry and Wolverhampton-based rising star, Romalyn Ante, who will both be reading a selection of poems from their outstanding collections.

About Liz Berry

Liz Berry is an award winning poet from the Black Country. Her first book of poems, Black Country (Chatto 2014), a ‘sooty, soaring hymn to her native West Midlands’ (Guardian) was a Poetry Book Society Recommendation, received a Somerset Maugham Award, the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Award and Forward Prize for Best First Collection 2014. Her pamphlet The Republic of Motherhood (Chatto, 2018) was a Poetry Book Society Pamphlet Choice and the title poem won the Forward Prize for Best Single Poem 2018. Liz's latest book is The Dereliction (Hercules Editions, 2021), a collaboration with artist Tom Hicks.

About Romalyn Ante

Romalyn Ante is a Filipino-British, Wolverhampton-based poet, translator, editor, and essayist. She is co-founding editor of harana poetry, a magazine for poets who write in English as a second or parallel language, and founder of Tsaá with Roma, an online interview series with poets and other creatives. Her debut collection, Antiemetic for Homesickness (Chatto Poetry), is shortlisted for the Jhalak Prize and longlisted for the Dylan Thomas Prize. Her honours include the Poetry London Prize, Manchester Poetry Prize, Society of Author's Foundation Award, Developing Your Creative Practice, Creative Future Literary Award, Artist International Development award, amongst others. She was recently awarded the Jerwood Compton Fellowship '21-'22.

Organiser Wolverhampton Literature Festival

Organiser of Liz Berry & Romalyn Ante

This popular event is now entering its fifth year and thanks to funding from Arts Council England it is now a regular feature on the city’s calendar.

While this year we are having to do things differently we still have a great variety of entertainment lined up for the three-day festival with over 35 different events.

Visitors will be able to listen to talks, watch performances and take part in practical workshops. All events have been organised with safety in mind.

We will be monitouring Government guidance carefully and will inform you of any changes to events.
