Creative Writing Course over 10 days, with 5 different tutors: 28th July - 5th August, including a free preparatory class.

About this Event

Tuesday 28th July, 10-11am : Sue Haigh An Insight Into Flash Fiction. The origin of what we now call flash fiction go back into the mists of literary history. In this taster session we will read two to three pieces, old and new. You will then have the opportunity to put pen to paper and produce your own piece of flash fiction, guided by your tutor. There will be time for discussion of your ideas and suggestions for further reading and writing.

Thursday 30th July, 10-11am: Josephine Jukes Andrews, Memoir Writing Taster Session. We all have stories to tell, yet writing non-fiction has its own peculiar difficulties. This taster session will be an introduction to memoir and crative non-fiction, exploring and using memory and providing a practical exercise. It is suitable for anyone who would like to begin life writing.

Saturday 1st August, 10-11am: Dawn Geddes Promoting Your Writing Online. This hour-long taster class will look at the various ways that writers can successfully promote their work and build up a profile online, including social media, blogging adn author websites.

Monday 3rd August, 7-8pm: Sandra Ireland Pen To Paper! This is a practical workshop, so pen to paper at the ready. Each participant will be shown a story card and invited to write for 15-20 minutes on a given theme, topic or image suggested by the card. No editing or overthinking! There will be time afterwards to discuss the ideas that came to light or to share your work.

Wednesday 5th August, 7-8pm: Rachel Marsh Editing Your Writing. Does your writing lack clarity? Are you worried about spelling and grammar mistakes? This taster editing class will provide tips for redrafting fiction and non-fiction, so that you can be proud of your finished project. In the short hour we will discuss basic grammar mistakes, how to edit a sentence, and the three steps to proof reading.
