Our five year strategy, Reaching Further, focused on strengthening small and local charities so they can help people overcome complex social issues. As this strategy comes to an end, we’re sharing eight key lessons the Foundation learned during this period.

The Covid pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement fell midway through our strategy. The work of the frontline charities we partner with was transformed virtually overnight, and we adapted to meet the changing needs of charities. Not starting with a blank sheet of paper, but a rapid reimagining of what funding, development and influence needed to look like to react to a rapidly changing environment.

A learning report will be shared during this event that sets out these eight lessons, drawing on from the programme of monitoring, evaluation and learning undertaken by the Foundation from 2018 to 2022 alongside the reflections of the staff team.

We want to highlight the changes to our ways of working that have most helped us in our mission, those we think would be most useful to funders and others who support charities, and the ones that will best prepare us for crises ahead.

These eight lessons have influenced the development of our new strategy which we will present at this event, setting out our plan for the next five years.

Who is this event for?

This event is aimed at all those who fund and support charities. We’ll be sharing lessons on grantmaking practice, delivering capacity building support and working to influence policy as a funder.

This will be a hybrid event for anyone who is not able to join us in person.
