LMA Book Group
Wed 12 April 2017, 18:00 – 19:00 BST
LMA Book Group is a reading group that meets monthly to explore a range of London writing, with a remit covering fiction and non-fiction for all periods in London history.
April's read is Up the Junction and Poor Cow by Nell Dunn.
Nell Dunn was a literary sensation in the 1960s as a result of her documentary fiction about the lives of working class women. She has an ear for dialogue and an ability to reflect, without judgement, the lives of women and the issues affecting them. Her work caused a scandal on publication for its examination of petty crime, back-street abortions and her characters’ reliance on the 'tally man'.
We will read both Up the Junction, her collection of short stories about Battersea and Clapham Junction published in 1963, and Poor Cow, her 1967 novel about young motherhood set in Fulham.
Free - booking essential.
