Predicting Future Skill Needs

10.00 - 11.30am (BST), 7 May 2024,

Online webinar

Over a relatively short space of time economies and labour markets across the world have been subject to a number of crises and disruptions including, but not limited to, the financial crisis, COVID-19, the war in Ukraine, climate change, and the diffusion of artificial intelligence. Some commentators suggest we are experiencing a period of permacrisis. All this complicates the process of predicting the future demand for skills.

As part of LMI for All’s mission to provide the latest information about the state of skills demand and supply, the webinar will provide insights into differing, though complementary approaches to forecasting future skill needs. The online webinar is hosted by the University of Warwick Institute for Employment Research (IER). You can register for the webinar at: [INSERT LINK].

The webinar will commence with a presentation on quantitative skills forecasting from Ben Kriechel from the Economics & Data. Ben is one of the leading skills forecasters in Europe. He will demonstrate the value of skills forecasting and how it can be used to deal with labour market uncertainties and disruptions.

This will be followed by a presentation from Effie Amanatidou, Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the Alliance Manchester Business School, who will draw on her extensive experience of conducting foresight studies to reveal how this type of approach can inform the identification of future skills demand and needs.

Each presentation will be around 20 minutes long with time for questions after each session.
