Is this fellowship only for people from a Black background?

Accepted Answer

Yes, this Fellowship is only open to people who identify as being from a Black heritage 
background, including a mixed heritage background. E.g., Black British, Black 
African, Black Caribbean, Black Other, Mixed background (to include Black British, Black 
African, Black Caribbean or Black Other).

Are there any other eligibility criteria for this fellowship?

Accepted Answer

Applicants must also be either: UK domiciled researchers who wish to conduct their research in the UK. 
OR
Non-UK domiciled researchers who have studied in the UK for their degree and/or PhD.

Question 3

Why is this fellowship opportunity only open to people from Black backgrounds?

Accepted Answer

In comparison to the employed UK population, researchers from Black heritage 
backgrounds are underrepresented in the biomedical sciences. One approach to tackle this, which is being advanced across the sector, is to create ringfenced opportunities for Black scientists at key career stages.

How many Fellowships will be awarded each year?

We expect to offer two fellowships per year.

How long are the fellowships?

Accepted Answer

Each fellowship is fixed-term for three years. There is a possibility to extend further.

When does the fellowship start?

Accepted Answer

Starting some time towards October is preferred, though there is flexibility with the start date and this can be discussed.

What is included in the fellowship package?

Accepted Answer

The Emerging Innovators Fellowship will be embedded within the LMS' existing postdoctoral cohort and will be paid in line with this pay scale. For full details of the package, please visit the LMS webpage.
