Description

Mighty Fine Theatre in association with the Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust are proud to present:

'Lobey Dosser in Showdown at Bridgeton Bus Garage'

The humour of the Lobey Dosser cartoons and the spirit of Bud Neill have been brought to life by dramatist, Duncan Comrie, and will be performed by Mighty Fine Theatre. Mighty Fine Theatre are celebrating Bud Neill's comic wit, informed by his time as a Glasgow Corporation bus driver. They will perform a merry Christmas show, a ‘BudNeillomime’ if you like. A show suitable for all ages as it regenerates 1940’s and 50’s humour, songs and comic personalities with youthful energy.

The legendary cartoon characters are brought together for a showdown at Bridgeton Bus Garage. On a bus to the east end, Sheriff Lobey Dosser questions Rank Bajin about his misdeeds in the Calton Settler wagon train disaster. The newly painted Calton mural provides evidence that Rank Bajin had a dubious role in the settler wagon incident. When questioned by Lobey Dosser, Rank Bajin claims it’s all a misunderstanding caused by the artistic licence of the painters'. The question is, should he get a second chance to live a good life again? Fairy Nuff and the GI Bride intervene and demand a second chance as well. A fresh start, a truly fantastic Christmas present.

The Ole Bud Neill gang have a right carry on on the buses, with an experiment which may or may not transform all humanity into perfect beings. Thus begins a marvellous experiment that could change mankind for ever.

Doors open to the garage at 12.30pm. Visitors are welcome to arrive early for the show and wander round the garage to see the collection of vehicles.

Notes:

Mighty Fine Theatre was formed to put on the first in the spirit of Bud Neill shows 'Lobey Doser Rides Again' at Partick Burgh Hall in 2014. MFT has produced three years of Lobey Dosser shows for the West End Festival in Govan, Partick, Scotstoun and Woodlands. This year they gained funding from Glasgow City Council Stalled Spaces Scheme to paint a mural about the Calton connection of the Lobey Dosser stories above Bill Tools Store in the Barras. Lobey Dosser and Rank Bajin performed a showdown at the mural launch which was continued at Hielan' Jessie's pub on 29th October

Bud Neill was a cartoonist in the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s contributing to the Evening Times and Sunday Mail with his Lobey Dosser series. He gained his insight of Glaswegian humour whilst working as a Corporation bus driver in the late 1930s and early 1940’s.
